Gold, Silver and Platinum Jewellery

Northern Ireland's leading auction houses

The sale of jewellery whether it be antique, vintage or modern, has been one of the mainstays at Bloomfield Auctions for decades and now that we sell internationally, we have seen jewellery sales increase and be sold to clients right across the globe. Gold of course is the first thing people think of when it comes to jewellery and rightly so it would be one of the most popular. Gold ranges in carat and many will say 9 carat, 14 carat, 15 carat, 18 carat and 22 carat gold. As you travel up this scale, gold becomes more expensive. The after the carat you look at the piece itself and if adorned by stone then what type of stone, is it diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald, tanzanite, topaz or other or a collation of them all.

Gold

Gold comes in three colours – yellow, white and rose. There are clients who just wear rose gold or white gold etc. When it comes to the stone the bigger the better is true but when it comes to diamonds, the next thing people will look at will be its colour and clarity and that can impact massively on value. Gold jewellery whether it be rings, bracelets, bangles, brooches or indeed necklaces remains extremely popular, and we have had pieces sell into the tens of thousands of pounds but also pieces that suit the other end of the budget scale at circa £50 etc.

Platinum

Now after gold, there is platinum which is a white metal and again remains popular amongst purchasers. Again, platinum pieces can be plain or can be adorned by many of the precious stones already mentioned. Jewellery has been around for centuries and some of the most sought-after pieces are more of the antique pieces of jewellery many of which was hand made with great detail and also many of the antique pieces made were made for a particular occasion whether it be love, wedding, engagement, mourning or other but they had real meaning.

We have also sold some unique pieces of jewellery which were made by a specific designer for a specific person and as these are one off pieces, they can be very desirable. At Bloomfield auctions we have two specialists who would value jewellery and an additional two consultants who when we are unsure of what maybe a certain stone is etc they can verify for us, so when it comes to the sale of high-end jewellery, we have a strong team to ensure that what we are selling is as indeed described.

Silver

Silver jewellery is also extremely popular and over the past ten to twenty years we have seen the massive rise in people wearing silver jewellery. A lot less expensive that its counterpart in gold, it is certainly more affordable for the discerning purchaser. Again, some pieces of silver can be adorned with stones precious, semi-precious or none. Many of the pieces of silver jewellery that would be sought after would be from the art deco and art nouveau periods as well as some of the antique pieces to. In terms of pieces there is no one piece is more popular than the other, rings, bangles, brooches, earrings and bracelets and necklaces are as in much demand as each other.

Costume Jewellery

Costume Jewellery is the last in family tree of jewellery. These are pieces made from non-precious metals with non-precious stone but is sought after. They are more a fashion accessory than anything else and you might think they would be pretty reasonably priced and you’re right but some of the right pieces can be extremely expensive and some of the high-end designer pieces can fetch into the hundreds of pounds. Again, however some of the most sought-after pieces can be those made in that art nouveau and art deco periods.

Conclusion

No matter what type of jewellery you have we would always recommend that you let us have a look at it first before disposing of it because you never know you might just have a little gem!
